Lavender

Lavender has lots of sedative compounds that penetrate the skin. The properties of lavender are best summed up as calming, soothing and balancing. The insect repellent and insecticidal properties of this plant have been used for many years to protect clothes/linens from pests and to perfume the cupboard at the same time.
It has a soothing and calming effect on the nerves, relieving tension, depression, panic, hysteria and nervous exhaustion in general and is effective for headaches, migraines and insomnia. A tea from lavender is said to stimulate the appetite. Lavender is 100% rabbit proof - but similarly attracts a wealth of pollinating insects and bees. The essential oil is used externally to treat most type of burns, including sunburn, rheumatism, muscular pains cold sores, insect bites, and head lice.
This is one oil I try to keep in my home at all times.
Lavender has been found to be effective in the treatment of;
• Calming effect on the nerves
• Relieves tension
• Headaches
• Insomnia
• Depression
• Panic
• Hysteria
• Stimulate the appetite
• Deters moths and other small pests
How to use;
Soothing lavender bath you will need 50~60 grams of lavender flowers to 1 litre of water, bring to boil and leave for ten minutes strain then add to your bath water or just throw a handful of lavender flowers into your bath which is just as good and go straight to bed.
Lavender cushions fresh cut lavender wrapped in muslin or any natural material you have. Take to bed to help sleep, or put them in linen cupboards, wardrobes to deter moths.
Lavender tea is prepared with two teaspoons of flowers to a cup of boiled water. It is to be drunk hot and sweetened with honey.
PLANT MAINTAINANCE:
Grows well in most soil types (including chalky and clay) don’t like being too wet. Full sun to partial shade, not keen on dense shade.
