Lemon Balm

Lemon balm should be avoided by those on thyroid medication (such as thyroxine) as it is believed that the herb inhibits the absorption of this medicine.

This plant is used in medicines, balms and tea.  Has been claimed to be a memory restorative.The crushed leaves, when rubbed on the skin, are used as a repellant for mosquitoes.  It is claimed to have antibacterial, antiviral properties, and it is also used as a mild sedative or calming agent.

Lemon balm has been found to be effective in the treatment of;
    •    Indigestion
    •    Flatulence
    •    Period pains
    •    Colds & flu  hot infusion
    •    Headaches
    •    Nervous problems
    •    Insomnia
    •    Rheumatic pain
    •    Sores
    •    Insect bites

How to use;

A tea is prepared by adding leaves to a pot of Indian tea.

Poultice place crushed or chopped leaves on a piece of linen or gauze, fold sides to hold in place immerse parcel in boiling water until leaves are soggy.  Remove using dry ends and twist to squeeze out the water.  Apply once it has cooled hold in position with bandage.

Use dried leaves in pot-pourris and herb pillows
